Day four, was one of my favourite. I have been to New York before, not long after the tragedy of 9/11, Mum and I visited the site where the twin towers stood and they were still digging out the foundations, they had repaired some buildings surrounding the towers and two of the new towers had been built.
Coming back and seeing what has been built in memory and to replace the towers was amazing, the new One World Trade Centre is stunning.
Tickets cost $32 so around £20 which is really good for the amazing experience and views you get. The whole experience starts from when you first step in the building, you are taken downstairs, underneath the building to where you are security checked (you get checked pretty much everywhere in america). Then we are taken to the lifts but whilst walking there you go through a corridor surrounded by rocks and information on the building.
Now if you are scared of heights, like me, the lifts will most likely make you cry, oh like I did in fact, yes thats correct I cried a little in the lifts and if you go, you'll understand why.
The lift takes only a scary 47 seconds to get to the viewing platform! Which is on the 102nd floor! When you enter the lift, the whole interior is one big TV screen which plays you a video, its hard to describe in words but basically you start from underground and as the lift gets higher and higher so does the video, however your not in a building your on the outside of the building, and its so realistic!
Now I'm not going to ruin anymore surprises from the building as you have to go there yourselves and see it, but its really worth a trip I would go again and again.
The total height of the building is 1776ft, now our tour guide on the bus told us this figure was chosen as that is how many lost their lives in 9/11. You can eat at the top, have parties and so much more.
The area where the Twin Towers stood has not been built on, instead these gorgeous, peaceful water features have been put in. There are two, and the water runs down the walls and into a hole in the middle, its so peaceful and quite even though its in one of the busiest cities in the world. All around are the names of those who died, on the day we visited there were roses placed on peoples names, we guessed it was their birthdays perhaps or loved ones paying respect.
The white structure in the background is the new station they are building, its really hard to explain how it looks, so you'll have to go see yourself!
Another place you can visit in the area is the 9/11 museum, I really wanted to go to this, however when we got there the queue was big and the tickets were for us, we thought, very expensive.
Yes, thats right its a car park in New York! There are hardly any car parks in the city, not like England where we have loads, couldn't resist taking a photo.
Could of brought the whole shop!
$1 for a slice of pizza has to be done when in New York, then a quick stole to Times Square to eat and people watch.
